Woman breastfeeds son to death after being warned to stop

CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA — This story is the last thing lactivists needed, given the shame and stigma that still permeates around public breastfeeding.

Sacramento County authorities have filed murder charges for a 32-year-old woman after her days-old son died during breastfeeding.

The charges were related to mysterious substances the boy was ingesting at the time of his death, the Citrus Heights Police Department said in a statement.

The boy’s grandfather said his family knew the baby was in trouble and fought for custody.

Instead, the suspect retained partial custody, even after her breastfeeding landed him in the hospital.

She was warned to stop nursing with her breasts after the incident.
